Daal Band’s Interview with Saba Newspaper
April 18, 2018
Shayan Shekarabi:
“Every work of art has its own character and content, although comparisons between albums are inevitable.”
“I do not find standing still creatively interesting—especially for our band.”
“If my second album, created at the age of twenty-eight, showed no progress from the first album I made at twenty-four—if I continued working with the same sounds and even repeated the same flaws—what would be the point?”
“We tried to take a different approach from the one we followed on our debut album.”
“When we perform together in the studio, a much stronger feeling emerges than when each musician records their part separately. Ultimately, we concluded that ensemble recording was the best approach for us.”
“In early spring 1396, we began holding a series of jam sessions. These sessions allowed us to develop the initial compositional ideas I had in mind and which we had collectively agreed to pursue. That is how we laid the foundations of the new album.”
Amin Hedayati:
“We approached the overall production of The White Crow in a much more cohesive way than we had approached our first album.”
“We tried to move closer to the true meaning and definition of being a band.”
“I believe every vocal ornament, sustained note, and nuance performed by a singer should serve the emotion that the music is intended to convey to the listener.”
“A singer should not display their vocal power merely to impress the audience, nor should technique overwhelm or move ahead of the meaning contained in the lyrics.”
“Fortunately, we have received extremely positive and encouraging feedback from listeners who engage with music more professionally and have a deeper understanding of it.”
