Daal Band Appears on Dorehami

December 20, 2017

Amin Hedayati, the band’s vocalist, and Shayan Shekarabi, its composer, joined Mehran Modiri on Dorehami on the evening of Wednesday, 29 Azar.

At the beginning of the conversation, Shayan Shekarabi clarified the band’s name:

“Our name is not ‘Daal Band.’ That name belongs to a Chinese woman who has a personal social-media account with no followers or posts. Our name is simply ‘Daal,’ and its initial letter—‘D’—comes from the Persian word doosti, meaning friendship.”

Modiri then introduced the members’ academic backgrounds:

“Shayan Shekarabi is a physician, Amin Hedayati studied architecture, and Shokrabi’s wife writes the lyrics for the group.”

Referring to Daal’s collaborative approach to creating music, Shokrabi explained:

“Whenever we release an album, all its tracks are developed collectively. The mood and circumstances of the period in which a song is created also influence the final work.”

Responding to criticism of Daal’s musical style, Hedayati said:

“We may face criticism at different points along the way, but we should remember that listening to and choosing music ultimately comes down to personal taste.”
